Grand Haven Wins Alma Invitational

The Grand Haven Buccaneers disassembled the Alma Invitational by scoring forty-two runs on their way to the Championship Trophy.
GM#1 Grand Haven took down the host, Alma, by the score 11-1 (5-innings) under the 2-hitter thrown by pitcher Kylie Masko. Masko allowed only 1-free pass. Mikayla Gronback went 3-3, missing the homerun for the cycle. Both Kaylee Hartwell and Masko gathered two hits, each with a double.
GM#2 Grand Haven defeated last year champions Lake Fenton 13-4. Again, Masko picked-up the pitching victory from the mound. This time with the 3-inning relief help from teammate Kaylee Hartwell. Big bats came from Gronback, barely missing the cycle, going 4-5 with 2-doubles and a triple. Masko went 3-3 at the plate with two doubles. Baby Hang, Morgan Hill, Jordan Buckingham, and Hartwell each clobbered two hits. Buckingham and Hartwell smashed homeruns in the contest.
GM#3 Grand Haven outmatched Royal Oak and took the Championship title with a 4-inning 18-2 win. Yogi Hang took the pitching victory in combination with Audrey Boersen. Hang struck out four batters in her two innings of work. Buckingham went 4-4 with two doubles. Hill went 3-4 with a double. Yogi Hang went 3-4 with a double. Gronback, once again, owed the batters box going 2-3 while crushing a homerun.
Buccaneer top ‘defense’ or top ‘defensive plays’ were performed by Jordyn Burel, Gronback, and Hartwell.

Rockford Falls To Grand Haven

The Rams of Rockford took their lumps as they visited Grand Haven in a single conference contest. Grand Haven dominated the 6-inning blowout by the score 10-0.
The Buccaneers brought their entire lineup to the plate in the very first inning, slamming 6-basehits and gathering 6-runs in the process. Rockford remained stunned the rest of the game as the Bucs cruised to a very decisive and dominating night.
Mikayla Gronback led the Buc attack by stroking two triples and a single. Morgan Hill squared-up two singles while the Hang sisters, Yogi and Baby, each pitched-in two RBI’s.
Yogi Hang earned the Buccaneer victory on the mound by limiting Rockford to just four singles and allowing her dominant defenders to help blank the Rams. No free passes were allowed by Hang.
Grand Haven slides into a first place tie in the OK-Red.

Buccaneer, Bulldog softball split
The Grand Haven and Grandville softball teams split their Tuesday contests.
Game 1: Grand Haven 5, Grandville 3
Grand Haven took a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning after back-to-back-to-back singles by Yogi Hang, Baby Hang and Audrey Boersen.
Mikayla Gronback and Boersen each picked-up two hits, with Boersen’s scoring two runners.
After a three-run first inning, pitcher Yogi Hang buckled down by scattering only hits the rest of the way.
Game 2 Grandville 7, Grand Haven 6 (10 innings)
The Bucs came up just short of pulling off the comeback win.
Grand Haven found itself down 5-2 going into the top of the seventh inning, when the bats of Kaylee Hartwell, Kylie Masko, Jordan Buckingham and Gronback ignited. The big hit came off the bat of Buckingham, with a 2-run double scoring Hartwell and Masko to tie the game at five.
At the top of the ninth, Masko’s double scored Hartwell to take the lead only to have the Bulldogs bounce back with one in the bottom half of the inning.
After being stopped in the top of the 10th, Grandville scored the winning run with a two-out, bases-loaded line drive.
Hartwell took the loss on the mound, with a solid performance after taking over in the third inning.

The Bucs played a fantastic game last night, but ended up losing 2-1 to the Rams. The Bucs ended up with 9 shots, 1 goal by Alli Keyser (in the 3rd minutes of the 2nd half). and 7 saves by keeper Jordanne Ellingboe. The Bucs produced several more opportunities on goals, including hitting the post, but were unable to finish to tie the game. Outstanding performances were had by Pixie Bitner, Jordanne Ellingboe, Lexi Veenstra, Olivia Buitenhuis, and Hannah Kenny.

Meet Recap

Grand Haven lost our first OK Red Conference match of the season 6-2 to Hudsonville. Julia Bachmann defeated Maddie Brouwer in three sets. The match took 3 hours to complete. Both girls kept going back and forth, neither giving much ground in the 2nd and 3rd set. Josie Hendrickson and Audrey Reus defeated Taylor Truman and Morgan Jones in straight sets. We go back to back this week with a home match versus Mona Shores on Thursday.

Game Recap

Hudsonville defeated the Bucs tonight, 4-1, scoring three goals inside of the first 10 minutes. Grand Haven was able to score its lone goal on a penalty kick, taken by Alli Keyser. During the second half of the game Grand Haven was able to generate a number of attacking chances, while locking down on defense as well. Grand Haven generated 7 shots on goal total.

G H Bucs JV tops EGR 9-5 and Zeeland East 7-3 respectively to win host Zeeland East’s tourney Saturday afternoon.

G H Bucs JV took the lead in the fifth inning and held on for the victory. A fielder’s choice scored Ryan Mattson and gave G H Bucs JV the lead for good.

Logan Naperala racked up two RBIs on two hits for G H Bucs JV. He singled in the second and fourth innings.

Jared Schwartz got the win for G H Bucs JV, allowing five runs over six innings. He struck out three, walked two and surrendered 10 hits. Jax Mast closed for the Bucs, making quick work of EGR in the bottom half of the seventh, getting the Pioneers 1,2,3.

In the top of the first, EGR grabbed the early lead, 1-0. Adams doubled to ignite EGR’s offense. A groundout by Gardner then moved Adams from second to third. Huffman singled, bringing home Adams.

A key fifth-inning rally gave G H Bucs JV the lead for good. G H Bucs JV tacked on a total of six runs on an error, a sacrifice fly by Hunter Brown, and an RBI single by Ryan Mattson.

One run in the top of the sixth helped EGR close its deficit to 8-5. An RBI double by Henkey gave EGR life. Schwartz ended the threat by getting Smith to fly out.

The Championship game featured Ethan Peters pitching 6 strong inning giving up 1 unearned run. The Bucs capitalized on 6 Zeeland East errors, and 2 hits from Mast which plated two runs. Landon Keeler, Ryan Mattson, Jarett Prins, Ethan Peters and Logan Naperala also added singles in the game. Hunter Brown scored 2 runs in the win.

The Bucs will host Grandville Tuesday in a double header at home.

Game Recap

G H Bucs JV beat Fruitport 14-0 in five innings on Friday after an 11-run explosion in the fourth inning.

G H Bucs JV scored in the fourth on an error, a passed ball, an error, a walk by Jarett Prins, a passed ball, a passed ball, a walk by Travis Thomson, a wild pitch, an RBI single by Landon Keeler, an RBI single by Malic Love.

Malic Love got on base two times in the game for Grand Haven JV baseball. He scored three runs and had one RBI.

Fruitport couldn’t get anything going with Luke Stafford was on the hill. Fruitport managed just three hits off of Stafford, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out three during his four innings of work.

The game was never in doubt after the third, as G H Bucs JV scored three runs on a bases clearing double by short stop Jarett Prins.
