Meet Recap

The Buccaneer Girls Tennis Team hosted the #6 Ranked Rockford in the opening match of OK Red Conference play on Monday. Although the host team lost 6-2, the match was extremely close to the end in the doubles matches. Rockford’s singles’ lineup swept the Bucs in straight sets, but the Bucs’ doubles teams all had great matches. The 1 Doubles team of Audrey Reus/Lilja Plumert went 3 sets and played terrific doubles but lost in the third set. The #2 Doubles team of Carley Schmidt/Cauryn Nowicki also played very well and were ahead 5-3 in the second set when one of their opponents fell ill and had to stop. The #3 Doubles team of Madison Ray/Sam Korecki played the best match of their season and beat the Rockford team in three sets 6-1 in the third. Our #4 Team of Hannah Staal/Laura Slocum also went three sets and played solid doubles througout.
Overall this was a great day for us. Rockford won our Conference and Regionals last year without losing a match. So to come out here, not only win 2 matches (although one by illness – we were ahead in the second set though) and go three sets with the other doubles teams is a great improvement for the team. I don’t think our girls believed they could do something like this. I have told them they are good, but it is time for them to start to realize it. Even the singles have some good things to work on to hopefully improve this week and get ready for Caledonia on Wednesday.
