Oakridge hands Haven girls their first loss

GRAND HAVEN TRIBUNE — A lackluster first half and roller coaster final minute of play left the Grand Haven girls basketball team with their first loss of the season Tuesday night, at the hands of visiting Oakridge, 45-47.

“Credit to Oakridge, they hit a lot of shots,” coach Katie Kowalczyk-Fulmer said after the game. “You take what you can and learn from it, we had too many lapses that just killed us. We weren’t ready and we weren’t defending and they were shooting the lights out on us.”

The Eagles came out firing, winning the tip and scoring on the first possession of the game. They dominated the first quarter of play nailing three triples, pounding the paint and locking down the Bucs struggling offense.

“You talk about how they have range, but then we weren’t getting into #22 (Hailey Reinhold), she’s putting on a shooting clinic and we weren’t getting into her,” Kowalczyk-Fulmer said.

Reinhold ended the night with 18 points for the Eagles with four from downtown.

The second quarter was marginally better for the Bucs. After going down 19-8 in the first, they shot even in the……………………………………………………………….
