Grand Haven girls basketball team pulls away from Forest Hills Central for road win

GRAND HAVEN TRIBUNE-The Grand Haven girls basketball team jumped out to a 10-2 lead over host Forest Hills Central, and kept the Rangers at bay the rest of the game for a 45-24 road winTuesday night.

“We came out fast and played pretty well in the first half,” said Grand Haven coach Katie Kowalczyk-Fulmer. “We trapped them a lot with our half-court sets and got in the passing lanes. We used those turnovers to create some easy offensive looks, and we had a double-digit lead going into halftime.”

Sophomore point guard Alli Keyser scored 14 points and added three assists and six steals to lead the Bucs (3-1), while sophomore forward Esther Byington added 13 points and four rebounds.

Junior wing Sophie Mariani had eight points, nine rebounds and four steals, while Kelly Olthoff added six rebounds and three steals.

“Esther had six points in the first quarter to help get us going, and then Sophie had six in the second quarter,” Kowalczyk-Fulmer said. “It was a just a very balanced attack…….
